DUNWOODY, Ga. — A Milton man was hospitalized Jan. 6 after police say he allegedly shot himself in the leg and tried to discard the weapon in the woods behind Perimeter Village Shopping Center in Dunwoody.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after noon, where 49-year-old Christian Lewis was lying in the parking lot behind The Bird sports bar with a gunshot wound on his upper left thigh.

According to the incident report, Lewis told police a black male wearing all black had pulled out a gun and shot him, but he did not say why or where the suspect had run. Police later found at least two .45 caliber shell casings 20 yards away from where Lewis had been lying.

Police also found a .45 caliber magazine inside Lewis’ handbag and saw that his right coat pocket appeared to be blown out from the inside, the report states.

The next day, police said Lewis admitted to accidentally shooting himself while adjusting his own pistol.
